Heart Disease is the Number One Killer of Women in America.
So why do we still have such a difficult time believing women about their heart health?
Season Two of the Pain Gap Podcast is live and our season premiere guest is, Dr. Suzanne Steinbaum! Women and heart health is an issue close to well, my heart.
I am so excited for you to learn from her expertise. Heart Disease is the number one killer of women in America. So why do we still have such a difficult time believing women about their heart health?
Because in addition to #ThePainGap, there’s a credibility gap in women’s health. Women aren’t believed about our bodies, period. Check out the facts and figures below:
👩🏽⚕️ Women are less likely to recognise the symptoms of a heart attack because they are different than a man's.
👩🏽⚕️Women don't necessarily feel that classic, “Hollywood” description of chest pain. They get shortness of breath, shooting arm pain or nausea.
👩🏽⚕️ The New England Journal of Medicine found that women are *seven* times more likely than men to be misdiagnosed and discharged in the middle of having a heart attack (!).
👩🏽⚕️ According to Harvard University, women wait an average of 65 minutes to be seen in the ER, while men wait only 49 minutes.
