The non-stop, wall to wall coverage of Donald Trump’s arraignment has been so pathetic that I can’t help but think the media is more than happy to give him free publicity all the way to his second presidency. Does anyone remember 2016? This kind of non-stop press was a boon to his campaign.
“Coverage of the Donald Trump arraignment on Tuesday was, in a word, exhaustive,” Tom Jones, Senior Media Reporter at the Poynter Report, writes. “Wall-to-wall coverage with blaring “BREAKING NEWS” banners and, literally, dozens upon dozens of anchors, reporters and analysts punctuating the coverage on not only cable news networks, but broadcast networks, as well.”
Writer Parker Molloy lays it out even more bluntly stating that it’s “so pathetic” how badly elite media types want Trump back in office. Molloy makes an important connection that between the press obsessing over Trump’s arraignment, and Lesley Stahl’s recent softball interview with Marjorie Taylor Greene that “corporate media is not in any way, shape, or form, on the side of “truth” or “democracy.”
“Corporate media is on the side of profit and conflict,” Molloy writes. “Always has been, and always will be.”
But for me, I personally am staying away from Trump press-overload redux because I am still getting over my PTSD from the Trump presidency. I spent so much of that time — and the misogynistic, racist, and Islamophobic campaign that paved his way to the White House— being so constantly offended and enraged by this man, there were days I thought I would have a heart attack from my rage.
And over the course of the four long years he spent at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, trust me when I say I came close. Want proof? Watch the above clip of me “ripping Trump” on CNN for refusing to condemn abuse allegations against then White House staffer, Rob Porter.
But what else could we expect from a President who has countless allegations of sexual assault himself, and who infamously encouraged grabbing women “by the pussy?”
The second clip is me talking about how Trump has to be dismissive of the #MeToo movement, which has brought down so many powerful predators and rapists, because he knows he’s just as guilty as the other guys.
Oh and let’s not forget about the time that Trump instated a literal Muslim Ban, separating hundreds of Arab-American and Muslim-American families from their loved ones abroad. I had thoughts on that, too.
This time around, I refuse to even watch or stay up with the media circus around Trump. I don’t know who is feeding who but it has never been clearer what a mutually beneficial relationship the press and the former president have.
Or perhaps the real problem isn’t with the media, but with we the people. And that’s exactly why I think Trump is already on his way back to the White House.
I agree whole-heartedly. I do not watch the coverage. I glance at the Pointer Report. I listen to the NPR coverage for a minute before i turn it off. Well, I admit that the Late Night segments are fun, but I'm done with DT.
