Hello and happy new year! I have done the thing and started a newsletter. Although I’ve been deep in my head pondering what to write in this “announcement post,” the more I thought about it the more I realized that this is actually my old stomping grounds.
It was way back in 2009 that I started writing online and laid the foundation for what was going to be my “home” on the Internet for years with my blog, Anushay’s Point. Before any major platform published my writing, I gave myself a platform. To this day that is some of the best career advice I ever received— don’t wait. Just start.
Fourteen years later, my work has been published from CNN to USA Today to Forbes but as so many women of color writers know, we don’t always get to write about what we want. In fact, we rarely do.
The older I get, the wiser I get, the more I think about how many stories and articles die at the feet of white editors who pass on my pitches. As a feminist woman of color, writing what I want when I want is nothing short of revolutionary.
At 43, I finally feel ready to really write for myself. Approval from a major platform is not something I need anymore. I’m starting a newsletter as a “release valve for the rest of my writing and reporting.” And as I get ready to write my next book on women’s health, this newsletter’s readers and subscribers will play a central role in my reporting and research.
As the media world in America continues to crumble, I am doing what I have always done in my career— go my own way and start my own thing. And that’s what Anushay’s Point is: your place for exclusive and intimate access to my sharp analysis on politics, women’s health, and race all through a feminist lens, delivered right to your inbox every week. What else could you possibly want?
Sign up and if you’re easily persuaded, consider subscribing (subscribers will get access to extras including video blogs, exclusive interviews with my famous friends and favorite writers).
And of course, you know there’s going to be an appearance or two by my Persian cats.
Thank you so much for supporting me and see you soon!
Love,
Anushay
