About

Hello and welcome! Thank you so much for checking out (and hopefully subscribing!) to my newsletter, “Anushay’s Point.”

I am Anushay Hossain, writer and author of The Pain Gap: How Sexism and Racism in Healthcare Kill Women (Simon and Schuster, 2021). The Pain Gap is an Audible bestseller and excerpted in Vogue. The book was released internationally in Japan which is really too cool.

You might have read my writing in Forbes, CNNUSA TODAYNewsweek, and Harper’s Bazaar amongst others. I am also the host of the Spilling Chai podcast which is all about the politics of women’s health, just like this newsletter.

Once upon a time (2009-2020 to be specific), I regularly popped up on CNN, MSNBC, PBS and other networks providing political commentary on Islamaphobia and why Trump is toxic for America. Despite dedicating my career to women’s health and rights, I am somehow known best for debating Tucker Carlson on Fox News.

What’s the point?

These days, I’m less angry about Trump and completely focused on changing American healthcare to center and believe women, especially women of color.

Why? Because too many countries— including America— still fail to recognize women’s rights as human rights. Too many countries still don’t invest in and prioritize women’s health. And that’s unacceptable in my book.

Women’s health is at the core of my writing but this newsletter spans how politics and U.S. foreign policy impact women’s rights— in America and the world.

Where else can you find me?

I was born and raised in Dhaka, Bangladesh but moved to America to attend the University of Virginia (UVA) and never looked back. I also studied Italian in Florence and Rome, Italy (ah, those were the days!) before completing my Master’s at the University of Sussex in the U.K.

Today, I am very settled in Washington, DC where I live with my husband, our two daughters, Persian cats and Siberian Husky.

Since the hacking of my Facebook Page and the dismantling/destruction of Twitter by Elon Musk, you can find me mostly here on Substack, LinkedIn and Instagram. Please also subscribe to my podcast and newsletter for even more on all things women’s health and rights!
